Departmental Overview:

The Weld Department is responsible for the manufacture of the car body shell, utilising latest technology weld timers, robot heads and automated equipment.

The Reliability & Improvements Group will provide a service to the Weld Division (WE1, WE2 and Press), investigating problems with existing installations and implementing appropriate solutions to improve MTBF, RFT, FPC and Delivery. It will also participate with the other project teams to ensure that new equipment installations attain the highest standards from the point of launch.

Job Description:
Weld Engineer to provide technical support to the department for weld integrity related issues.
Lead and implement continuous improvement activities to improve quality results.
Participate in the specification and design of new welding equipment.
Optimisation of welding parameters, quality and control systems.
Improve the skills base of existing Weld members through development of appropriate training and systems.
These improvements will be realised by working independently or within a team, seeing actions through from concept to completion. This demands a very flexible approach as improvement activities are generally carried out outside normal production periods.

Key Role & Responsibilities:

? Responsible for analysis of spot weld concerns and activity to improve the overall weld result.
? Responsible for the planning and implementation of a programme of activity to improve the spot weld condition i.e. burrs, spatter and extend tip life etc.
? Responsible for weld integrity related capital investment proposals.
? Support new equipment, materials and model introduction.
? Develop actions and projects to improve RFT weld quality performance on a sustained basis.

Job Requirements:
Qualifications:
? Recognised apprenticeship within the automotive sector, Engineering Degree, or equivalent.
? Welding Institute recognised qualification (Desirable)

Experience:
? Minimum 2 years working with spot welding process
? High volume, automated manufacturing
? Minimum 5 years Automotive experience within BIW production environment
? Implementation of continuous improvement methods, e.g. Six Sigma, Kaizen, PDCA

Additional Requirements:
? Good communications skills (written & verbal)
? Ability to use own initiative and meet specified deadlines
? Computer literate (MS Office)
? Design capability ? to help define consumable specifications
? Very flexible approach to work
